SPORTS NUTRITION

Young Athletes Have Their Own Unique Nutritional Requirements.

Alongside the energy needed for growth and maturation, they need to concentrate and stay alert at school while balancing training, matches and other sporting activities.

In many cases, this means children may need to eat more than their parents realise. With the right nutrition support, young athletes can learn how to fuel, perform and recover, while supporting their wider health and development.

How Important Is Nutrition in Youth Sports?

For youth athletes, nutrition is one of the most important aspects of athletic development but often it is missed or not given enough attention. Why is this?

  1. Children often seem to be doing just fine anyway. They are good at their sport, why do they need nutrition advice?

  2. Nutrition information is often misinformed or over-complicated. Everyone has a view and often it is made more sensational intentionally to attract your attention.

  3. Clinically, nutrition is approached from a disease avoidance standpoint and not seen as a strategy for optimal performance.

  4. Lack of time. Parents and guardians often think changing nutrition habits is going to take up a lot of time when life is already busy.

However, research shows us time and time again that a good nutritional strategy is fundamental to longer term athletic development, achieving sports potential and performance in school.

THE 4 PILLARS OF NUTRITION

    Overall Energy Intake

Our programme analyses your child's current eating patterns and overall intake to show you whether they are eating a healthy combination of foods and assess any challenges they are experiencing.  We guide you through the strategies to achieve the right balance.

    Quality of Diet

We make it easy for parents and children to understand the importance of eating in colour, improving the variation of their diet for optimal health, immunity and sustainable success in sport.

    Energy Expenditure

We calculate your child's energy expenditure so that you can see exactly how much they need to eat to match their outputs especially on those busy sporting and education days.  We look at the whole package so you can feel confident in fuelling your child pre-sport, nourishing them post-sport for effective recovery, and how to eat on rest days.
